How many books do we have? How much office space do we need?

Professor’s offices just aren’t what they used to be. We just don’t have as many books, and journals in paper are nearly a thing of the past. We need to keep lab notebooks to document our science. What do we bring with us?IMG_4263.JPG

The wall over my couch.

The wall by the door and some souvenirs of Mali, and Mexico, and photos.

I have about 33 inches between my desk and my first bookshelf for photographs.

No books on the window wall, and no hammock in St. Louis 😦

Books still in our downstairs office, mine for most of 32 years.

And then there’s Dave’s office:

He has fewer books at the office than he remembered. The pink bookcase comes with us. It was Anna’s when she was little.

OMG do I really have that much storage? The black one is empty. Five drawers are Dave’s, so that leaves 35 filing cabinet drawers with papers, reprints, photographs.

These notebooks also have to find a home, for they document our research. There are probably also another 3 feet or so of active notebooks we’ll bring.

Can we really bear to part with the Journal called Evolution which we have from day 1? Probably.
