Microbiology Retreat

A Cryptococcus fungus from pigeons and eucalyptus

and all in between, breathed in, may overwhelm your brain,

Deepa showed us with little green dots,

in Pere Marquette Lodge,

where once the Illini and their Piasa bird passed

through the seasons of the great rivers,

until, in 1673, Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet

came to the Illinois/Mississippi river confluence,

now noted by a common Christian symbol, painted white.

A screen of genes,

silenced like the Illini,

identified two that are promising

for further research

in mice.
